Yanna has recently experimented with several printmaking techniques using an old-fashioned etching press. Mono printing, mono drawing, dry point and transfers are amongst the new additions to her work of one-off prints. Combined with her original silkscreen stencil method, the artist creates a clash between mechanically reproduced images and gesture mark making. Yanna likes to work within the grid used frequently by graphic designers as well as with painterly marks, collage, typography and geometric forms created with paper cutout stencils.
The artist has printed works on several unusual surfaces including Plexiglas, antique wood, canvas, hand-made papers and aluminum. The search within every composition is for the right balance between the spontaneous and the pre-planned, an almost mathematical equation that acts as the foundation for the elements and characters of her story.
